I think it’s interesting to recognize that at the end of your first interview with Nathan he actually said that he’d like for it to have been longer.

Having a longer format might allow you to add more human/emotional components to your interviews. I understand that eliciting as many business takeaways as you can within an hour for your audience to have tangible actions is one of your top priorities. However, I think that there are some of us that would enjoy a longer format similar to Tim Ferriss. Think of it this way, the longer we listen to you the less time we have for Tim : )

Thank you again for all that you do.

Intentionally,

Raj

P.S. please consider releasing your interviews earlier in the day.

What worked about it was you both basically did a debrief on a shared experience. This put you both as peers sharing a process, rather than an interview where we got lots of the guest and only a little of you.

You couldn’t have gotten this level of interesting conversation without the first interview though. This felt very real and raw.

One thing I have noticed doing interviews for my new show is the most interesting conversations happen in the pre and post interview conversations. It’s as if when the camera turns on we all get more stiff. I am trying to figure out what role I am playing in creating that dynamic. How much of it is in our control as interviewers and how much is not. I am still trying to figure out how to bring that magic onto the camera.

If you did more of these I would definitely listen to them. I think you’d need to be selective of which guests you choose to do them with. There is clear synergy between you and Mr. Pearlman and he is incredibly open on camera compared to most. You would need to choose your subjects wisely but when it works it will really work.

And regarding having “a cold” since you were 16, I used to have the same problem for almost 30 years and it went away one year ago. I can only tell you what worked for me and I have no idea if it will work for you. In order to lose weight I cut out carbs and basically went Paleo. Like many people there would be a cheat day each week. Even after going Paleo it didn’t completely stop.

When things really changed was when I completely gave up beer, even on cheat days. I used to be a beer snob and lover of craft beers. Not only do I love the beer but I love the culture and the fun of it. Anyhow I switched to only distilled liquors. Primarily tequila. But also Vodka and Whiskey. No mixers, ever. Just booze and rocks. The mixers are what cause the hangover and the sinus problems.

Now, if I go out for dinner and have two beers I wake up the next day sneezing with a stuffy head. I can go a whole night drinking tequila and no allergy / stuffiness side effects at all. Like I said, that’s what worked for me and I have no idea if it will work for you.

Great interview. Keep it up.

Jim Verzino
