It was all done by increasing his online sales, so we invited him to teach you how to do it.<\/p>\n<p>Rob is a serial entrepreneur who owns several websites, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hittail.com\/\">HitTail<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few actionable highlights from the course.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"tacticname\">1. Sell to existing customers so you\u2019ll get repeat business<\/h2>\n<p>Rob provided keywords to his customers but found that some didn\u2019t have time to write keyword-rich blog posts, so he offered finished posts for an extra fee.<\/p>\n<dl class=\"table-display\">\n<dt>Take Action:<\/dt>\n<dd>Ask what problems your customers run into when they use your services, and create new products that solve those problems.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<h2 class=\"tacticname\">2. Aim for recurring revenue so you\u2019ll have a steady income<\/h2>\n<p>Rob\u2019s Micropreneur Academy, which teaches entrepreneurs how to launch software products, is open only to customers who pay a monthly membership fee through PayPal.<\/p>\n<dl class=\"table-display\">\n<dt>Take Action:<\/dt>\n<dd>Sell subscriptions to your products instead of offering them for a one-time payment.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<h2 class=\"tacticname\">3. Improve your website copy to convince more visitors to buy from you<\/h2>\n<p>Rob wrote a headline for DotNetInvoice that promised, \u201cCreate Your First Invoice in Under Three Minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<dl class=\"table-display\">\n<dt>Take Action:<\/dt>\n<dd>Write copy with verbs that tell how customers use your product, and make a promise to the reader.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<h2 class=\"tacticname\">4. Make your sign-up process easy so more customers and trial members will join<\/h2>\n<p>Rob reduced the number of sign-up fields on HitTail from 15 to six by cutting extra fields like \u201cusername,\u201d \u201ctime zone,\u201d and \u201cpassword confirmation.\u201d<\/p>\n<dl class=\"table-display\">\n<dt>Take Action:<\/dt>\n<dd>Create a short sign-up form that only asks for an email address, password, and credit card information, if relevant.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<h2 class=\"tacticname\">5. Add calls to action to keep new visitors from wandering away from your website<\/h2>\n<p>Rob added buttons like \u201cView Demo\u201d and \u201cTake the Tour\u201d to each page of DotNetInvoice.<\/p>\n<dl class=\"table-display\">\n<dt>Take Action:<\/dt>\n<dd>On every page of your website, add at least one button asking visitors to click to learn more.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<h2 class=\"tacticname\">6. Do the things that bigger businesses can\u2019t do so you can get your first customers<\/h2>\n<p>Rob blogged about his book and appeared on Hacker News, and the burst of publicity kick-started his sales.<\/p>\n<dl class=\"table-display\">\n<dt>Take Action:<\/dt>\n<dd>Write guest blog posts and make podcasts when you\u2019re starting out, even if you won\u2019t be able to continue those things when your business is larger.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<h2 class=\"tacticname\">7. Research popular keywords to bring more new customers to your website<\/h2>\n<p>Rob learned that there were more searches for \u201cuser documentation\u201d than for \u201chelp docs\u201d or \u201chelp documents,\u201d so he advised GuideKit to change the wording on its site.<\/p>\n<dl class=\"table-display\">\n<dt>Take Action:<\/dt>\n<dd>Enter phrases in the Google AdWords keyword tool to see which ones are the most popular, then use those phrases in your website copy.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<h2 class=\"tacticname\">8.
